Borderline
Ben is 16 years old and mad about fantasy role-play. The boundaries can get a bit blurred, and sometimes Ben daydreams that he has merged with his role-play alter-ego, the young mage Cordovan. But in real life, Ben is not as brave and heroic as Cordovan by far. His long-standing friendship with the impulsive and unpredictable Merle turns into love, despite attempts to fight his feelings. Being Merle's boyfriend is just as exciting as he had imagined - and just as complicated. Merle is full of crazy ideas and passionate political convictions, and Ben discovers that she also has a dark side. He realises that Merle has carefully constructed a fantasy world around herself to conceal this. It takes a while for the true extent of Merle's psychological problems to become clear, but when it does, Ben finds the courage within himself to act, to take on responsibility and stand by her.
