- Osman Engin
Dear Uncle Ömer
At long last Osman fulfils his promise to send monthly letters to his aged uncle who lives all on his own back in Anatolia, describing in detail what life is like in Germany. To this end, he examines the many special occasions - and the many peculiar ones - that fall within the German calendar year. Whether at carnival or Christmastime, his letters offer a sardonic perspective on how and why Germans celebrate their festivals. He doesn't forget the other side of the coin, either - how can he explain Ramadan or the Feast of Sacrifice to his German compatriots?
"A superb satirist and an incisive observer of German-Turkish relations." Badisches Tagblatt
