The dtv-Atlas is conceived first and foremost for would-be teachers, to provide them with a book that puts the fun back into teaching. The volume provides a comprehensive historical survey of the subject from antiquity to modern times, as well as analysing the manifold different theories and methods. And, because the key to gaining the attention of today's pupils is visual aids, the authors have been generous with colour charts and the material is richly illustrated throughout.
The first part of the book is chronological - covering the history of education from antiquity to the 20th century. The second part deals with methodology - describing the basic principles and theories of education as they apply to each subject and its related areas.
Franz-Peter Burkard studied philosophy and theory of education; he is a Professor at Würzburg, Bavaria. Axel Weiß studied social education and philosophy; he is a graphic designer and also teaches art at a Würzburg grammar school.
