The elegant fin-de-siècle world comes together in the newly re-opened Hotel Kursaal Maloja. Among the illustrious guests is the charming Mathilde, daughter of a factory owner, whose life takes an abrupt about-turn when she falls ill with tuberculosis. One of the hotel's most frequent visitors, the painter Giovanni Segantini, feels irresistibly drawn to the radiant beauty of aloof young Nika who works in the hotel garden. As the result of a traumatic experience , Nika has lost her memory and her power of speech; the only link to her origins is her sole possession - a priceless locket. Can Giovanni help her unlock its hidden secrets and solve the mystery of who she is and where she comes from?
