Story of a Child

'It's so hard to live in so many worlds at once. Nothing really seems to fit. I often wonder if you feel the same.' In the title story, a young Jewish woman born in post-war Germany recounts her story in epistolary form. She conjures up the times spent with her boyfriend Joseph, reflects on their break-up and tells about herself and her son. These six stories by Barbara Honigmann caused a sensation when they were first published in 1986. Her style was praised as 'naive, straightforward and vivid', 'its appeal lying particularly in the way she reflects on history through seemingly trivial details on a personal level'. (Süddeutsche Zeitung)

Six short stories which give a vivid impression of the life of a Jewish girl born in post-war Germany.
