The Tea Party: White Rage
A new right-wing group is thriving in the USA: the Tea Party - a white, ultraconservative, nationalist movement. While many Tea Party members are simply dyed-in-the-wool Republicans, there are also right-wing extremists among them who advocate non-payment of taxes as a matter of principle, deny the holocaust, orchestrate attacks on politicians and gun down doctors who perform abortions. There are hundreds of racist hate-groups operating within the party. Who are these people, what do they have in common and what do they want?
This book gives an overview of the New Right, its roots and its supporters within the media. Schweitzer looks at the movement's financiers and examines the think tanks, lobbyists and masterminds operating behind the scenes. She also explores conflict, contradictions, in-fighting and shifts in direction within the movement, and addresses how the Tea Party differs from similar political groupings in Europe.
