The sage Zhuang Zhou has long been a thorn in the eye of Prince Yan, who views the great philosopher’s discourse as highly rebellious. Yan orders one of his soldiers, Min Teng, to murder the philosopher. However, the soldier is taken aback when the old man shows no fear of dying. A deep conversation ensues and Min Teng begins to question his task. Since he cannot return to the palace without executing the prince’s order, the two men decide to run away. As they flee, Min Teng’s view of the world expands - and he finds himself opening up to the love of a young woman.
