Coverbild Tango von Arne Birkenstock, Helena Rüegg, ISBN-978-3-423-24273-8

History and Stories
Tango is enjoying a second renaissance. In many German and European cities, schools and salons were founded where one can learn this dance once thought to be somewhat frivolous and odious. But it s not only the dance scene which is booming. More and more young musicians make attempts at tango compositions, and in some countries playing the bandoneon has become a subject of instruction. Stars of the classical music scene like Gidon Kremer and Daniel Barenboim have discovered tango for themselves, and the supply of CD-Roms increases constantly. Tango films are popular. What is missing is a book that may answer any question a tango amateur may have. And this is the book!

It gives an extensive survey over dance, music and text of the Argentine tango, about its historical and social environment and its latest developments. It gives practical advice and suggestions as to where one can dance, see and hear tango, where the music selection is the biggest, which CDs are to be recommended and where further literature is to be found.
