The Man in the Haystack

34-year-old Charlotte adores her tenement flat in the centre of Hamburg. It may be a bit on the poky side, but it’s oh-so-charming. When her boyfriend Kai informs her they’ll be moving to a detached house in the suburbs without having bothered to consult her, Charlotte sees red. She takes the next train to Berlin, meets the man of her dreams on the journey—and decides then and there it’s high time she gave her life a complete makeover. Kai has got to go; her mother Dorte has got to go as well—or at least move somewhere far far away. And Charlotte herself also has to go—out into the big wide world to track down the handsome stranger who set the butterflies aflutter in her stomach.

Charlotte is the likeable heroine of a warm-hearted and witty novel about the search for true love—and identity.

About the author
Portrait des Autors Birgit Hasselbusch

Birgit Hasselbusch

Birgit Hasselbusch was born in 1969. She used to read books backwards out of sheer boredom, and since that time she’s also taught herself to speak backwards—in German, English, Spanish and French. Nowadays she works as a presenter at Radio Hamburg (speaking forwards, of course!). As a handball player she won the German youth championships twice over, and sport still plays a major role in her professional life.
