A life between Capri and Sylt

A sensitive, humorous portrait of a remarkable woman. Subtly and unpretentiously, Claretta Cerio describes her childhood and teenage years between 1927 and 1945, which she spent divided between two vastly different island worlds. On the one hand, Capri is her mother’s home, and it is here that she spends carefree vacations with her siblings. And then there is Sylt, where her grandfather runs a cafe and a Frisian cookie bakery. Pulled back and forth between the two worlds, languages and cultures, the young girl tries to find her own home in the midst of it all. However, the rise of National Socialism forces the family to make a momentous decision.

A novel about strangers and home, love and yearning, identity and memory.
