Tchaikovsky: Life and work

Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840–1893) was considered Russia’s greatest composer even during his lifetime, and he still is to this day. Classical music aficionados love his work, which was all composed over the course of three decades. But the composer’s life was dogged by crisis; he was homosexual, unhappily married, and the exact circumstances of his death are still shrouded in mystery.

In this biography Malte Korff persuasively interweaves the great composer’s life and work, as well as employing his expertise to offer an entirely new perspective on his music.
