Berlin, Palace Square

A German MP on a field trip finds himself stranded on an island in the middle of the North Sea.

Far from the machinations of the capital, life and politics take on a very different perspective.

Meanwhile in Berlin there are plans afoot to build a vast aquatic complex right next to the palace square—Berlin’s famous Schlossplatz. A date has already been set for the opening, but the building is far from finished. There’s a mess of pipes, but nobody knows where they lead to.

Legislation, major projects, the world situation at large —the stranded MP is responsible for it all. He believes in truth and the power of right; he wants to make the world a better place. But somehow everything is going awry—with the panel of directors, in parliament and politics in general.

  • An absolute rarity in German literature: a literary novel written by an executive who knows the nitty-gritty of politics inside out.
