Bob Dylan

His music and his life

He was the icon of the ’60s protest movement, the voice of a whole generation. He is still a non-conformist, rock poet and a master of metamorphosis. Many of his songs became instant classics, ›Like a Rolling Stone‹, ›Blowin’ in the Wind‹, ›Lay Lady Lay‹ to name but a few.

Olaf Benzinger examines in detail the songs, albums and various creative periods, explores Dylan’s family background and early years, and offers a thoughtful analysis of what is probably the most sophisticated body of work to have emerged from the world of popular music. His aim is not to assess the quality of the work or to engage in hero-worship, but rather to try to gain an understanding of an exceptional and unique artist.
