Islamic State: End of the Line?

The Arab world is undergoing the most severe crisis since the thirteenth century Mongol invasion. Many Arab countries have failed at even the most basic functions of state and seem unable to protect their citizens. In turn, the people are fed up with their rulers. The only remaining common bond is Islamic faith—so every conflict is bound to turn into a religious battleground. We may well be facing the beginning of a new Thirty Years War, a war that will have a profound knock-on effect on Europe bringing more fundamental changes than any other event since the Second World War.

A perceptive historico-political analysis and a comprehensive inventory of modern Islam by an acknowledged expert on Arab affairs. Rainer Hermann’s account goes way beyond mere reportage, venturing a well-founded prognosis.

  • a highly topical issue

  • a precise analysis of the changing Arab world

  • an erudite perspective on the future
