Until the Bears Dance
»We are the authors of our own destiny.«
You don’t have to remain forever in the place you’ve always been – that’s what the members of the Lieber family tell themselves. German nationals, they are waiting for their naturalisation as Swiss citizens, while World War I turns everything upside down. Three of the four siblings emigrate: Isabelle to settle in the Brazilian jungle, rebellious Anne to Sydney and Jacob to Nazi-era Berlin to perform as a gymnast. With this book, Michael Hugentobler has succeeded in writing a completely different kind of family saga and love story: not one of those heavy doorstoppers of a chronicle but a concise and sparkling story to enchant rather than overwhelm.
- The most charming, most enchanting, wildest love story and family saga this year
- Michael Hugentobler’s previous novel ‘Tierra del Fuego’ was nominated for the Swiss Book Prize
- For readers of Mariana Leky and Nelio Biedermann, Vea Kaiser and John Irving
