Jihad Calling

Children & Young Adult, Young Adult, YA Age 14+, YA Social Issues

A profoundly stirring and unnerving novel

18-year-old Jakob intervenes when a girl wearing a traditional hijab headscarf is molested by right-wing hooligans—and promptly falls in love with the anonymous girl’s blue eyes. He discovers that Samira is a member of a Salafist movement and meets her brother Adil, a follower of the jihadists of the Islamic State. Although it seems initially inconceivable, to his surprise he finds himself more and more drawn to the Salafists’ outlook and community while growing increasingly alienated by his own cold, consumer-driven society. Jakob becomes a radical, breaks off all contact with his old world and converts to Islam. But is he really ready to move to Syria with Adil?

Ya’qub has changed his profile picture.
Ya’qub has changed his religious views to Salafism
Ya’qub changed his position to a servant of Allah.
Hamit Krämer, Proud Muslim, Laura Aischa and 176 others like this

• a novel that could hardly be more highly charged and relevant
• frighteningly true to life and comprehensible, incredibly gripping
• A skilfully exposing dual perspective: Jakob’s story in the first person set against Adil’s as-it-happens jihadist diary.

Press acclaim:
»The tale of a radicalization – gripping and very realistic/very close to reality.« Focus Schule

»In Dschihad Calling, the reader can experience first-hand the decline of a young man into radicalism. Christian Linker creates a very realistic and touching description. « NDR Info
