A Garden Reveals Itself – A tale of another life

The garden as teacher

When Katrin de Vries moves back to her home after years in the big city, to a brick house in East Frisia with a large garden, she is still convinced that the lawn should be mowed, weeds weeded and rotten trees cut down. But gradually her idea of natural beauty, indeed of nature in general, changes and she dares to take a new approach: Instead of designing the garden according to prevailing conventional ideas, she gives free rein to the trees, grasses, bushes and flowers on her doorstep. And while it grows, teems and sprouts around her, she observes and learns – and can't help but think of her grandparents, for whom the garden had a completely different meaning.

An impressive, literary text – sensual, thought-provoking and atmospheric.
