Which life and love decisions promise lasting happiness?
One morning, Toni doesn’t wake up as usual in her small apartment in an old building next to her long-term boyfriend. No: To her amazement, she finds herself in a generously proportioned residence. Everything is bright, tidy and expensively furnished. And the view from the window? Strangely familiar. Antonia finds that she is back in the village of her childhood.
Little by little, she realises that she is leading a quiet life here, with a car parked in front, a mother-in-law next door and a child on her lap. A child on her lap? Antonia is amazed. Is that her baby? And the father? Apparently her first great love – a man she could never quite forget.

Anne Sauer, born in 1989 is an author and presenter, who has been recommending books on Instagram (@fuxbooks) and in her podcast ›Monatslese‹ for many years. For her work she received the Young Excellence Award in 2022. In August 2024, her much-acclaimed essay about Taylor Swift's fan culture was published, and it landed her directly on the SPIEGEL bestseller list. 'The Other Life' is Sauer's debut novel, in which she writes about the search for a fulfilled life.
