Intensive
Current Affairs, Non-Fiction
Who cares?
Ricardo Lange, an intensive care nurse, loves his job – but he also suffers with it. So much so, that he decides to go public, using Facebook to vent his anger at the failings in the healthcare system. He becomes famous throughout Germany when, invited to the Federal Press Conference by the Health Minister, he gives an account of everyday hospital life: of the catastrophic working conditions, the permanent physical and emotional overexertion, and the very strong feeling that politicians are not really interested in those facts. He touches on plenty of sore points, wonders what steps need to be taken and by whom, and looks for workable, constructive solutions, ultimately believing that “we have to keep the positive lessons and discard the negative effects of this crisis”.
- A stirring, powerful, empathic account full of passion and fighting spirit
- 'Ricardo Lange is just a really strong guy – in every respect. He has broadened my mind.' Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim
