From Obedience to Freedom

“My prime objective was to portray people who stand as role models because they knew that the time was right to ask themselves: What do I stand for and what am I prepared to die for?

The portraits of six people who decided to actively resist the Nazi regime: Sophie Scholl, Helmuth James von Moltke, Adam von Trott, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the English bishop George Bell and prison chaplain Harald Poelchau. Though their thinking and motivation differed as did the actions they undertook, they all had one thing in common: a strong Christian faith. Vivid, lucid, moving and partially based on personal knowledge, Ferdinand Schlingensiepen retraces the paths of these courageous non-conformists, showing why they are still valid role models to this day.
