That’s Sick!

Children & Young Adult, Children's Books, Children's Books Age 8+, Non-Fiction Children

12-meter long tapeworms

How do tapeworms even get into our intestines? This book explains that. In addition, it introduces the most terrible diseases of all time, during which the only things that helped were wishes and prayers - or did they? Why did sailors suddenly start loving sauerkraut, and why were beer-drinking workers better off during times of cholera than everyone else in the city? Birte Müller explains all this so flippantly and directly that you’ll find yourself reading her book feverishly. Or you’ll get goosebumps from shivering. Or a stomach ache from laughing. If you think “That was just all in the past!” you’ll be wrong. Covid even shows up here. Yannick de la Pêche’s wonderful pictures combine just the right dose of morbid charm and wit. Drama, the plague and athlete’s foot - this book knows no boundaries!

  • You will laugh uncontrollably, learn things and feel disgusted - all at the same time!
  • A very different health book for kids
  • Birte Müller’s previous books have been translated into 14 languages
Birte Müller

Birte Müller, born in 1973, lives with her family in Hamburg, where she primarily works as a columnist. She studied book illustration in college (and not medicine or biology, as you might think). Her picture book Planet Willi has already been published by Klett Kinderbuch. That’s Sick! is her first nonfiction book and the first publication that she hasn’t illustrated herself.
