It's Always Down to the Past

Mother and Daughter – What connects them? One gave birth to the other

›Well, the dog is here now, so you’ll have to look after it'‹ says Mum. ›Just like a child – you have to care for it no matter what.‹ But daughter Karla has different plans. She runs away from Leipzig, breaking off contact with her complicated mother, Gerda. Now in Cologne, Karla is struggling with her studies, stressed about rent, and wondering whether to take the next step with her girlfriend. In an honest novel, full of humour and tenderness, Paula Irmschler tells the story of two very different women who just happen to be mother and daughter.
