In the Year of the Wildflower

There is freedom in the mountains

Every seven years, the forest is in full bloom. It also bloomed in 1940, when Babette Koller was born in a mountain farmhouse. Since then, her life has been closely linked to the rhythms of nature. Under pressure from her mother, she marries into a respectable family at 21, even though she loves another man. For the sake of her daughter Anna, she ties herself to a husband that leaves her no breathing space for 14 years. Her school friend Burgi follows an entirely different path: escaping the suffocating restriction of her parent’s house early on to follow her desire for freedom. Both women pay a high price to live life on their own terms. But both remain resolute in following their own path.
