Like a Bird – Us Kids Back Then

Children's Books History, Children's Books Friends / Family

For all children of today and back then – whether from East or West Germany

For Gerda, the Berlin Wall is part of normal life. Only when she has reached her grandma's age will she be able to go the West, but in her childhood only birds can fly across the border easily. Birds are important in Gerda’s family. Her father has a mysterious connection with them, and her grandma has a parakeet, Coco. With Gerda, we experience a vanished world with flag roll call on the schoolyard, homemade doves of peace, and presents from the West.

  • Richly and beautifully illustrated, poetically and authentically told
  • About the series Us Kids Back Then: In every childhood, things happen that one never forgets. Bad, funny, exciting – but above all, very personal experienced stories. This series brings them to life
