Remember little Anke from the award-winning ‘C'Moooon’ comic? It’s 1983 now, Anke has grown a little older, and she’s off on a riding holiday with her sister Eva and her best friends. Without their parents! The girls are revelling in being together and with the animals, enjoying the farmer’s wife’s hearty sausage stew, and giggling late into the night in their thick feather beds. Anke also devotes her time to caring for Banger, a weak piglet. What might seem a rural idyll is also pervaded by the fear of war. Out riding, low-flying military aircraft thunder over their heads, and Anke has to think of her mother, who is organising peace demonstrations. And she’s worried about Banger – will he survive?

Anke Kuhl, born in 1970, studied illustration and has been a freelance illustrator since 1998. She lives in Frankfurt with her family.
