The story of three young people who refuse to be silenced
Three young people struggle for their freedom: After 1945 Harry fights his way through the ruins of the post-war period; between 1988 and 1992 Jennifer ends up in the GDR’s most brutal youth labour camp for criticising the regime; and in the present day, slam poet Nadiem faces a right-wing mob at his first major performance. Decades separate these stories from one another, and yet beside being linked by a family network they are also united by their desire for freedom and self-determination, which quickly pushes the three young people to their limits. Nevertheless, all three find the courage to go on.
- Authentic and profound characters with whom readers immediately sympathise and whose fates they will never forget
- A moving examination of what it means to fight for freedom
- Stirring and hopeful, a plea to stand up for one’s beliefs and make a difference
